ABOUT DR. MURPHY


Gerald J. Murphy, B.S., D.D.S

Dr. Gerald J. Murphy is a native of Grand Island, Nebraska. After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry in Lincoln, he returned to Grand Island where he has been practicing for 25 years.

Since completion of his professional training, he has attended well in excess of 3,800 hours of post-graduate continuing education in all areas of dentistry with specific emphasis on head, neck, oral/facial pain, and temporomandibular disorders. In addition he has completed post graduate training in homeopathy and dental toxicology.

After meeting rigorous requirements, he has attained Fellowship status in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics, and the Academy of General Dentistry. In addition, he has also achieved diplomate status in the American Academy of Head, Neck and Facial Pain and the American Academy of Pain Management. He has, and continues to lecture extensively throughout the United States and Canada.

He has presented over 175 seminars in 32 states, the District of Columbia, and 3 Provinces of Canada. His lectures and continuing education programs have been delivered for state dental societies, dental study organizations, as well as international academies. Dr. Murphy has had numerous articles and papers published in professional journals and has been a contributor to two textbooks. In addition, he has developed several audio and video instructional tapes as well as several printed educational pieces that are used by dentists, other allied health care professionals and patients throughout the country.

Dr. Murphy is a member of numerous professional organizations and academies and has served as a member of the Board of Directors and committee chairman of many. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and is the immediate past president of this Academy in addition he is a past president of the Hall County Dental Association.

Dr. Murphy was one of a select group of twenty three dentists from throughout the world asked to speak at a national conference on temporomandibular disorders sponsored by the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C. in 1996. He was also one of five doctors from the United States asked to provide expert advice to the American Dental Association on developing parameters of care for temporomandibular disorders. In addition, he served as a member of a Nebraska legislative subcommittee, the TMD Critical Protocol Development Group, which developed similar parameters of care for the State of Nebraska. These parameters are utilized by health care professionals in diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders to assure the highest quality of patient care.

Dr. Murphy and his wife Pamela have one son, Ryan. His outside interests include travel, amateur radio, photography, and motorcycling.
